What’s New?

Hi, my name is Sylvie and I am the creator of Life Balance Fitness here in Toronto! I am a former dancer turned certified personal trainer and nutritionist, and I am also a mom, an avid supporter of performing arts, a yoga enthusiast and a health food junkie! I have many interests and I hope to be able to share some of my love for these with you!

I know first hand how hard it is to balance all the elements that life can throw at us. Preparing healthy meals, being a good parent, fitting in exercise and relaxation- it can certainly feel like a balancing act! If you’ve ever found yourself wondering how to be healthier and happier when it nearly seems impossible… I hear you and I’ve been there! Let me be the first to tell you that it is NOT impossible to achieve your best health, to look fantastic, and to have more energy than you ever thought possible. You can have it all!

Fitness is one thing, but a life-long decision to be healthy is quite another. I believe wholeheartedly that how we treat our bodies reflects our outlook on life. It’s so evident that we need to fuel our bodies for optimum performance. We also need to take some time to clear our minds, and just breathe! We can enhance our love for life and for our selves. We are all striving to achieve this seemingly elusive balance, and I want you know that it really is within your reach!

Let me tell you a bit about where I am coming from! My interest in the wellness industry stems from pretty early on. I’ve always been very active, and conscious of the foods I put into my body, seeing that I wanted the best fuel for my performances. Starting at the age of 7, I began taking ballet classes. I pursued the professional training route from the age of 11, and dabbled in several styles of dance until the age of 19, having the prestigious opportunity to train with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Contemporary Dancers of Winnipeg.

After suffering a few injuries I left the world of dance at that time, and really felt that I needed to pursue other avenues. So I looked at starting my university studies in nutrition and earned my degree in nutrition from Ryerson University in 2004. I felt like I needed to get back to the active component of my life and really missed that artistic side of me. Performing and dance never did leave my soul, nor did the desire to be strong, fit and healthy. So it seemed fitting to get into acting and also explore the world of fitness and exercise!

In 2005 I became certified as a personal trainer with Can Fit Pro. I worked in a few big-name Health Clubs to get myself started. Then in 2006 I became a mom for the first time and wow did that throw me for a loop! Finding the time to exercise and eat right became very challenging (but not entirely impossible)! I am pleased to report that I was able to return to my pre-baby body, losing the weight very gradually and naturally in the course of about a year post-birth. In fact, I look even better now than I did before becoming a mom!

All was not happy and healthy though. Between 2006 and 2008 my personal life underwent a serious upheaval. I put my personal training career on hiatus a bit while I spent some time focusing on being a full time mom, and sorting out some major life transitions. I took a few courses in the meantime (Yoga, Pilates Mat certifications, and women’s fitness to name a few). It was certainly not an easy road, but I was finally able to break through and get to a much safer and happier place in life as a result. Sometimes it takes a dramatic series of events to make us realize where we need to be!

After taking many winding roads, I finally ended up getting back on track with my health, my life and love for life! In 2010, it just seemed like a natural progression when I decided to start my own company. My passions for dance, fitness & health were all brought together finally and Life Balance Fitness was born! I am so grateful to all who have been a part of this amazing journey with me!

Everyone has the power to create change, and I am here to guide, motivate, strengthen your will and encourage you along your own journey. Nutrition and Fitness are evolving fields, and I understand how confusing it can be when so much conflicting information exists out there. I would like to help you demystify this world so that you too can enjoy a healthier life! My goal is to help you gain strength from the inside out by using a holistic approach to fitness and wellness, focusing on the body mind and soul. I am very much looking forward to connecting with you!

Yours in Happiness & Health,
